Sleep Apnea is a respiratory disorder which causes interruptions in breathing while the patient is asleep. This disorder can be identified because of vigorous snoring, sudden awakening in the middle of the night and excessive daytime sleepiness. These symptoms can have severe consequences for your health and may trigger disorders such as hypertension, heart disease or cerebrovascular disease. Because of excessive daytime sleepiness, there is increased risk linked to activities such as driving.
To determine if you are suffering from Sleep Apnea, our specialists will carry out a Respiratory Poligraphy test which measures patient’s oxygen saturation, snoring, integrated air flux, toracic and abdominal movement.
One of the options during the treatment, depending on the severity of the apnea, is a mandibular advancement device or MAD. This device will counter the apnea by advancing the jaw forwad and allowing the natural passing of air through the breathing passages.
These oral devices reduce or eliminate snoring in most patients
