It is important to establish the root cause and carry out the appropriate treatment, which is something only a dentist can do.
Regardless of the intensity and duration, toothache is something you should immediately consult your dentist about.

Tooth decay is the progressive erosion of tooth enamel caused by bacteria. When we neglect our oral hygiene, food remains produce acids which, over time, destroy the enamel and cause tooth decay.
Tooth decay can be prevented by following these simple tips:
Sensitivity in the teeth and sensitivity in the gums are two different situations, with different causes.
In the case of sensitive gums, they are caused by plaque deposits over the teeth, commonly known as bacterial plaque, which is normally eliminated through brushing or flossing.
However, when plaque is not eliminated it tends to harden and forms lumps we know as calculus or tartar. Bacteria cause swelling in the gums (gingivitis), which causes redness, inflammation and often bleeding of the gums.
In the case of tooth sensitivity, pain will also be present when the teeth are in contact with cold food or beverages, or even with cold air. Patients may also suffer discomfort when brushing their teeth.
Tooth sensitivity is different to gum sensitivity in that it is only a temporary pain. Usually, it is caused by wearing of the tooth surface, the enamel, or because of gum recession.
The term bruxism refers to excessive teeth grinding, which can happen both during the day and at nightime, as a consequence of jaw clenching. Often, the jaw moves involuntarily, exerting pressure on the teeth and often causing sever health issues.
Bruxism usually results in facial muscular pain, and can cause pain, damage or mobility in the teeth. Furthermore, it can result in the wearing of the bone which anchors the tooth, resulting in issues such as temporomandibular disorder.
When we feel pain in the facial area, teeth, head and neck areas when waking up, it is very likely caused by bruxism. Other common symptoms are:
Tooth sensitivity when exposed to hot, cold or sweet foods.
Recurring earache.
Muscular tensión in the back.
High levels of anxiety and stress. (Return).
